Estonian Cuisine, Traditional yet New
Farm to table dining is not new to Estonians. Hunting, gathering, and preparing for the cold and long winter is not something just our ancestors did. In Estonia, it continues to be a way of life.
Thanks to the country’s colorful history, there are over 400 manor homes that have been left behind by the Teutonic Knights, the Russian Empire and Scandinavian Kings. Most of which, have now been renovated and are used as hotels, restaurants, and private residence. So what do you get when you combine the love for locally grown produce and a historic manor home? A tasty, unique, and trendy restaurant of course!
An hour drive from Tallinn lies Põhjaka Manor, which dates back to 1820. Three young Estonian chefs have turned the old manor house into a fresh restaurant that only serves local and seasonal produce. It is very popular with locals regardless of the hour long drive from Tallinn! A brilliant and welcome idea worth trying.
Head isu!
